The Flaming Mountain Scenic Area is located along National Highway 312 in Gaochang District, Turpan City, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, on the northern edge of the Turpan Basin and along the northern route of the ancient Silk Road. It stretches in an east-west direction, situated about 10 kilometers east of Turpan City, 183 kilometers from Urumqi, 98 kilometers east of Shanshan County, 324 kilometers from Hami City, 450 kilometers south of Ruoqiang County, and 290 kilometers north of Qitai County. [1] The Flaming Mountain range runs east-west, traversing the Turpan Basin. It extends over 100 kilometers in length, with a maximum width of 10 kilometers, an average altitude of about 500 meters, and a peak elevation of 831.7 meters. [1] Turpan features a typical continental arid desert climate. The Flaming Mountain is the hottest place in China, with summer temperatures reaching up to 47.8°C. The ground surface temperature can soar to 89°C, hot enough to cook eggs in the sand. Although the annual average temperature is only 14.5°C, there are over 100 days per year with temperatures exceeding 35°C, including 38 days with scorching heat above 38°C. [1] The Flaming Mountain Scenic Area encompasses both natural and cultural landscapes. The underground palace covers a construction area of 9,000 square meters and includes attractions such as the Journey to the West Cultural Corridor, the Flaming Mountain Geographical and Cultural Hall, the Gaochang Historical Figures Hall, the Giant Thermometer Exhibition Hall, the VR "Fly Over the Flaming Mountain" Experience Zone, and a leisure shopping center.
